Robert Irvine
Using a nice Brioche or challah bread is the secret to a phenomenal french toast. This recipe makes for a perfectly browned and caramelized outside with a custard-like inside. Mixed with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla add just a little warmth that makes this the only french toast recipe you'll ever need!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ Tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 4 Tbsp Butter
  • 4 Eggs
  • ¼ C Milk
  • ½ Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 8 Slices Brioche Bread
  • ½ C Maple Syrup Warmed

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar and set aside briefly.
  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk together cinnamon mixture, eggs, milk, and vanilla and pour into a shallow container such as a pie plate. Dip bread in egg mixture. Fry slices until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side. Serve with syrup.

Notes

Fully submerge the bread in the egg mixture for only a few seconds and let an excess drip off prior to cooking to ensure you don't over saturate it.
Once the bubbles from the butter have subsided, you'll know the pan is hot enough to start cooking.
